Cynthia Hawkins | Student Counselor
supervised by dr. jennifer mccurrach Phd, LPC (TX, MO), LSSP (TX), LCMHC (NC)

Cynthia Hawkins completed her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University–Commerce, earning a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2015. She is currently advancing her professional training as a graduate student at Liberty University, where she is pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with an expected completion date of December 2026.

Prior to transitioning into the counseling profession, Cynthia spent ten years in elementary education. This extensive experience within the school system provided her with a deep understanding of human development, attachment, and the critical role emotional regulation plays in learning, behavior, and relational functioning. These formative years shaped her appreciation for how early life experiences influence emotional resilience and long-term mental health outcomes.

As she begins her clinical practicum, Cynthia brings a comprehensive and integrative philosophy to her practice, viewing mental health as a dynamic intersection of emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual well-being. She approaches counseling through a holistic, trauma-informed lens, recognizing that many psychological symptoms are not inherent pathologies, but adaptive responses to experiences that occurred earlier in life. From this perspective, childhood environments and relational experiences significantly shape emotional regulation, self-concept, and patterns that often carry into adulthood.

Driven by her faith and a love for people, Cynthia is an active member of her church community and is motivated by the transformative power of grace. As a counselor-in-training, Cynthia’s mission is to support individuals in overcoming obstacles, restoring emotional stability, and discovering the fullness of their identity and purpose.
